T Shirts

There are many who say that t shirt originated from the US Navy. There are historians that say it began with the British Royal Navy. They say that the British Royal Navy wore them as under garments for their uniform. There are other historians that say it actually began with the French army. The fact that we know is that, American Soldiers first wore wool uniforms. They felt comfortable with cotton undershirt. It was in World War 2 that t shirts were included in the uniforms of the US Navy and US Army.

 T shirt officially became a word in the dictionary in the 1920′s. It was manufactured for commercial market in the 1930′s by companies such as; Roebuck & Co., Fruit Of The Loom and Hanes.

 It was Hollywood that made a great impact to the public for the popularity of t shirts. Marlon Brando starred as Stanley Kowalski in the 1951 film – A Street Car Named Desire. Wearing tees became really popular because of Marlon Brando sporting one in the film. With Marlon Brando’s great physique; magnificent pecs and abs, the shirt he wore was very fabulous to the eye of the public. In every scene of the film, the way Marlon Brando wore tees suggested so much sex appeal. In 1954, Malon Brando made another film which is – The Wild One. It was in this film that he rolled the cuffs of his jeans while wearing the infamous t shirt. The fashion statement of wearing jeans and tees somewhat symbolizes a rebellious air or outlook. In 1955, that was the time James Dean also sported t shirt in the film – Rebel Without A Cause. The film – Rebel Without A Cause, really nailed the popularity of t shirts.

 It was in the 1960′s that the advances of screen printing began. Through screen printing people were able to design and make statements on their tees. During this time, business minded people come to realize that printing custom t shirts can be a lucrative business. This is the time when Rock and Roll Bands and sports franchises or teams began customizing tees for business profits.

 Up to now, tees are very popular. It never faded from the fashion world. It is even very popular to present Hollywood stars. Custom t shirts, nowadays, has been the form of communication of popular celebrities to voice out their views, opinions and insight. Tees has been popular ever since because of ease and comfort in wearing them. You also look cool in t shirts. And its really fun wearing tees.
